Making Renewable Energy more affordable

Thanks to our long-standing partnerships in the renewables sector, we’re able to offer all eligible customers access to the Government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). This scheme provides a £7,500 contribution towards the supply and installation of qualifying renewable heating products, making it easier and more cost-effective to upgrade your home.

Our Renewable Heating Solutions

An air source heat pump

Air Source Heat Pumps (ASHP)

Air source heat pumps capture heat from the outside air, even in temperatures as low as -15°C, and use it to heat your home. Think of it as a fridge in reverse: instead of extracting heat and pushing it out, it brings it in.

They provide reliable heating and hot water all year round and are highly efficient, delivering up to 4.35 units of heat for every 1 unit of electricity used. That means as much as 3.35 units of free heat for your home. By reducing reliance on fossil fuels, they help cut running costs and work especially well with underfloor heating systems and modern radiators.

A ground source heat pump installation

Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHP)

Ground source heat pumps draw the natural warmth stored in the earth to efficiently heat your home.

Sealed pipes, installed either horizontally or vertically underground, circulate a glycol solution that absorbs heat as it flows through the system. The pump extracts this heat, enhances it through compression and delivers it to your home, providing reliable heating and hot water all year round.

Installation of a water heat pump

Water Source Heat Pumps (WSHPs)

If your property is near a suitable water source, a water source heat pump can be an excellent solution.

This type of pump extracts natural heat from bodies of water, such as rivers, lakes, large ponds or boreholes to efficiently warm your home. A network of submerged pipes, filled with a special working fluid, absorbs heat from the water. The system then compresses this fluid, raising its temperature, and transfers the heat into your home for reliable space heating and hot water.

A mechanical ventilation system

Mechanical Ventilation with Heat Recovery (MVHR)

Mechanical ventilation with heat recovery provides a constant supply of fresh, filtered air while efficiently extracting stale, moisture-laden air from your home. This process helps maintain a comfortable, condensation-free environment all year round, helping to prevent condensation, mould, and damp and improves air quality indoors.

MVHR systems also meet Building Regulations Part F (System Four) for new homes, providing full compliance with ventilation standards while reducing heat loss and lowering energy costs.

Solar Thermal Installations

Solar Thermal installation is a clean, efficient and sustainable way to harness the sun’s energy to heat water for your home. A well-designed solar thermal system can provide up to 70% of your annual hot water needs, reducing reliance on traditional energy systems and lowering your household bills.

At Wilkins Plumbing and Heating, we source and install high-quality solar thermal systems throughout Somerset, helping homeowners embrace renewable energy with expert installation and reliable service.
